FAQs Patent Questions
Question:Can the Patent Office recommend a patent attorney or agent to assist me with filing my application?
Answer: The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) cannot make this choice for you. However, a general attorney may help you in making a selection from among those listed as registered practitioners on the USPTO roster.
Question:How often is the USPTO database updated?
Answer:
The database is normally updated every Tuesday, the day patents are issued. Exceptions may occur for Federal holidays and when problems arise with data availability.
Question:Applications must be in data query within six days under normal circumstances
Answer:
Under normal circumstances the application should be in Data Query (PALM location 7550) less than 6 days. If the application involves special circumstances, (i.e., waiting for drawings, a signed declaration/oath, etc.) the timetable will vary depending on the response needed.
